Medical conditions

Lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus) is a long-term auto-immune disease that causes joint pain, skin rashes and tiredness.

What is the connection between Lupus and stroke?

Recent studies show that if you have lupus, you are at higher risk for stroke1. The exact link between lupus and stroke is not yet clear, and there are no specific treatments that reduce stroke risk in people with the disease.

Lupus: Key points

Certain people with Llupus may be treated with aspirin to reduce risk of stroke2. It is vital that people with lupus are advised about how to reduce their modifiable risk factors for stroke such as diet, smoking, alcohol consumption and exercise.
